Kozhikode:In a significant step towards creating awareness among general public about deceased organ donation programme, 101 doctors working in a private hospital here submitted their willingness, at function here. These doctors numbering 101 of Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences Limited, handed over their organ donation consent forms to the Kozhikode district collector, Dr P B Salim. Salim handed over the forms to an NGO 'HOPE' (Human Organ Procurement and Education), Kerala.
Speaking on the occasion, Salim said the gesture by the doctors needs to be emulated by all working in the health sectors. 'The doctors have shown to the world that mere public speeches was not enough, but actions was needed', he said. Keralites are way behind states like Maharashtra and West Bengal in voluntary blood donation, he said and emphasised the need for creating awareness among the public on the need for donating organs. Among those spoke included Dr Abdulla Cheriyakat and Calicut government Medical College Principal Dr C Ravindran .
