Tamar Asharaf involved in attack on Prof Joseph: SIT

Moovattupuzha : The Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the assault on Prof T J Joseph of Thodupuzha New Man's College, in a raid has found that Tamar Ashraf of Moovattupuzha was also associated with the assailants in the attack on the college teacher. Circle Inspector P P Shams today said that Tamar Ashraf was an active member of Popular Front of India (PFI) and serving as the member of its State Committee.

He was absconding since the attack, in which right palm of the College Teacher was chopped when he was returning home from the church with his family members at Moovattupuzha on July 4.

The investigating officers found direct involvement of PFI in the heinous crime. Police conducted raid in the house of Tamar Ashraf in Moovattupuzha and his factory, producing curry powder in Kothamangalam, few months ago in this connection. But they could neither nab him nor seize any incriminating documents during the raid.

The SIT, led by CI P P Shams, raided the premises of the factory a couple of days and unearthed some documents which proved Asharaf's direct association with the incident.

The SIT charged Ashraf as the 54th accused in the teacher attack case. The report was filed before the Session Court, Kochi, yesterday, Mr Shams said.
