    Farmer-scientist offers alternative for Endosulfan

    Kannur : A farmer-scientist, K S Thomas of Alakode in Kannur District has come out with an alternate formula to end the controversy of using Endosulfan pesticide in Kerala in plantatiion corps. Talking to newsmen here, Mr Thomas said the state and the central governments
    should encourage his invention which controls pests and mosquitoes.

    He presented a paper entitled, '' A new light trap for pests and mosquitoes'' in the first Farmers Science Congress (FSC), organised by Kerala Agricultural University and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Panniyoor.

    He successfully demonstrated his formula of the liquid (used up engine oil) for effectively killing insects and mosquitoes without harming the environment, social and ecnomic, he said.

    He demanded that the Union Minister for environment, Jairam Ramesh, who is to visit Kerala soon to examine the harmful affects of endosulfan in Kasargod district and a Central team must examine his invention.
