New Delhi: Though he is visually impaired, Devi Kiran reached Delhi after embracing the beauty of Taj Mahal on his mind. He and his companions never came for a leisure trip to Delhi but with a plea to ban the pesticide, which took away their vision. Devi Kiran and his companions will detail the difficulties they had been undergoing due to endosulfan before the rulers who always give a deaf ear towards reality. The endosulfan victims from Kasargod district had come to Delhi to attend the Parliament march on Wednesday and with a demand to ban the pesticide. The march is led by Solidarity Youth Movement
Devi Kiran is a 6th standared student at the Kasargod Government School for visually impaired. Kiran and his brother Jeevan Raj, sons of Ishwar and Pushapa from Enmankaje panchayat, were born blind. Devi Kiran is a good singer too and is learning music for the last six years. Kiran said they would meet environment minister Jairam Ramesh and will tell their plight. If he approves he will sing for the minister too.
Narayanan from Pallithaduaka, Amith Shaji from Babdiyadukka are also in the team. Solidarity Youth Movement state president Mujeeb Rahman said that if a central team comes to conduct a study once again, they wouldn't be allowed to enter the soil. So far, many groups have visited for study purpose.
Our demand is for a complete ban. The government should atleast act instead of conducting studies. As per official records, 4000 families have been affected. The government should take responsibility for their lives. Mujeeb alleged that the statement by Minister KV Thomas is suspicious. Environmental activist Medha Patkar will inaugurate the march and MPs from Kerala will participate.
