Thiruvananthapuram : The Kerala Government today announced its decision to hike the monthly pension for the labourers who are unable to work due to ill health caused by the aerial spraying of endosulfan pesticide, to Rupees 2,000 from the present Rupees 1,000.
Briefing newspersons here, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said all the others, who were suffering from diseases due to the pesticide, would be given a monthly pension of Rs 1,000, besides free ration.
The state government had already announced a special package for the victims of endosulfan, that was said to have claimed several lives in the northern Kasaragod district.
The Chief Minister said he would soon lead an all-party delegation to New Delhi to seek an aid of Rs 100 crore from the Centre for the rehabiliation of the people affected by the aerial spraying of endosulfan at the state-owned cashew plantation in Kasaragod.
