CBI to probe renovation of Pallivasal project

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Bureau of Investigation has began probe on the decision of KSEB to conduct renovation of Pallivasal hydro electric project which was earlier renovated by the SNC Lavlin . On November 11 KSEB gave sanction for a five crore project to renovate the runner buckets citing that the productivity had been lowered. But at the same time the board in its earlier report given in HC stated that the productivity of Pallivasal, Panniyar and Chenkulam, which were renovated by Lavlin, had been improved. The first level investigation itself indicates that there was heavy mismanagement in the earlier renovations. With renovation, the capacity which stood at 32 MW was raised to 37.5 MW. For the purpose, three new machines with 7.5 MW capacity and three other machines with 7.5 %MW capacity were installed. But at the same time Lavlin had not accommodated the related facilities to produce power when the capacity is being raised.

For raising the productivity, the first step to be taken is to raise the quantity of water. But while the capacity was raised the width of penstock pipe which carries the water was not increased. So all the generators are not functioning in its complete capacity. So even after the earlier renovation, Pallivasal stood at its pervious capacity of producing 32 MW power.
