Kottarakkara: Veteran Communist party leader and former MP P A Solomon, 93, passed away at a private hospital in Kottarakkara on Thursday night.
He was admitted to the hospital the other day with chest pain. Cremation would be held at the Kottarakara Marthoma church cemetery on Saturday.
Solomon had played an active role in building a base for the party in the district. Solomon is the son of Andrews, Cherthala and Kathreenama. He was put behind bars after participating in the Punnapra Vayalar uprising. He was a Rajya Sabha MP from 1958 to 64.
He had also penned a number of books among which `IrumbIndian' was a big hit. His last book was `Athimarathinum Mukthi'.
Solomon is residing at Nethaji Nagar Niramal Nivas in Kottarakkara. Wife Ammini, retired teacher MTGHS Kottarakara, is the sister of noted writer Kakkanadan. Children, PS Nirmala, Special correspondent, Mathrubhumi daily, New Delhi. Dr PS Jaya, PHC Perayam, P S Leela, editor, Economic and Political Weekly, Mumbai, P S Manu, director Press Chithra. Sons-in law, Jeevan Thomas, sculpture, Paulo Ibanios and late PT Mathew.
