Kochi: The Vigilance department has recommended registering criminal case against Supplyco for indulging in food adulteration. The government has submitted the interim report of the Vigilance investigation team to the High Court. The Vigilance also submitted the lab report of samples of adulterated commodities, which were found harmful to public health, being sold in Supplyco.
The Vigilance probe had found that there needs to be a statewide elaborative probe against Supplyco and many food contractors supplying to Supplyco by violating tender conditions. The Vigilance stated that these malpractices are posing huge loss to the state exchequer.
Yahiya, a businessman from Kozhikode, submitted a petition in the HC stating that contractors are supplying things to Supplyco flouting tender. He also filed a complaint to the Vigilance Department too. The contractors are supplying poor quality items and some of the officials in Supplyco are helping them.
The other day Supplyco had suspended four officers working in quality analysis section. Vigilance also found the presence of harmful chemicals in green gram supplied by Supplyco to the noon meal scheme in schools. It also found poor quality chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin seeds, red gram and fennel seeds.
As per the complaint in HC, the Vigilance collected samples from Supplyco outlets in Ernakulum, Thrissur and Palakkad and tested them.
