Chennai: In a dramatic turn, Ramalath, who had launched a legal battle to prevent her husband, actor-director Prabhu Deva from marrying actor Nayanthara, has given up her fight and agreed for divorce.
Accompanied by Prabhu Deva, Ramalath appeared before a family court here and both filed petitions seeking divorce, Mr Anand, counsel for Ramalath said. He said both agreed to seek divorce on mutual ground and Family Court Judge Pandurangan after taking on file their petitions, said the case would be heard after six months.
As per the mutual agreement, Prabhu Deva, who is to marry Nayanthara, has agreed to give some properties to his two sons and Ms Ramalath, Mr Anand said.
He said as Ms Ramalath agreed for divorce, she withdrew her earlier petitions, based on which the family court had issued summons, directing Prabhu Deva and Nayanthara to appear before the IT on January 21.
Ms Ramalath had filed a petition, seeking restitution of her conjugal rights and sought a direction to prohibit Nayanthara and Prabhu from entering into wedlock.
After the duo failed to appear before the court and the summons could not be served on them, the court issued second summons through the South Indian Film Artistes Association ('Nadigar Sangam').
