Former Kerala MLA stages dharna in front of Air India Office

Mangalore : Former Kerala MLA Cherkala Abdulla Kunhi a today accused the Air India management of playing with the emotions of victims of the Mangalore air crash, in which 158 passengers onboard the Dubai-Mangalore aircraft were killed seven months ago. Mr Kunhi who staged a dharna in front of the Air India Office here under the banner of Kasaragod District Committee of Kerala State Muslim Youth League (KSMYL) told newspersons that the management had deliberately chosen H D Nanavathi of Mulla and Mulla Associates to take care of the compensation process since he hails from Maharashtra and did not have any concern for the victims belonging to Kerala and Karnataka, The Dharna was organised to impress upon the Air India management to ensure the payment of complete compensation to the kin of the victims.

Mr Kunhi, who is also the president of KSMYL, claimed that the assurance of Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel that the family members of the victims would be paid as per the provisions of the Montreal Convention remained unfulfilled. The compensation offered by the Airline is not a favour shown to the aggrieved families, but it was their legal right as per international law, he asserted.
