Kochi: The International Forum for Cultural Heritage Tradition (IFCHAT) has urged UNSESO and other world organisations to take steps to declare the St Francis church at Fort Kochi, which is the first European church built by Portuguese in India in 1503, as Heritge structure. The plea in this regard was made by Austin Paul, IFCHAT President here. Paul said the 507 year old church was built with the concurrance of Godavarma Raja, the King of then Princely State of Cochin.
A Public meeting was held recently as part of the 507th anniversart of the church in which Ralph Faria, director indo portugese cultural insititute, Adv. Antony Coorithara division councilor, was among those who attended. A national seminar on contribution of portugese for the development of Fort Kochi was also held.
