Auto �Taxi strike withdrawn

Thiruvananthapuram: The indefinite strike by auto taxi workers which began on December 29 midnight was withdrawn after talks between Transport minister Jose Thettayil and union leaders. The strike was withdrawn based on an assurance that a temporary hike in rates would be made by January 12. The rate increase would be based on justice N Ramachandran Commission report, to be submitted within January 12.

The minimum charge for autos would be hiked to Rs 12 and Rs 8 for a km. At present the minimum charge is Rs 10 and kilometer charge is Rs 6.
