    Rs 100 crore spent for Mahe in one year: Valsaraj

    Thiruvananthapuram : An amount of Rs 100 crore had been spent for various developmental works in Mahe region,
    part of Pondicherry state in the last one year, Pondicherry Home Minister representing Mahe, said here today. Addressing a meet-the-press programme here, Valsaraj said Pondicherry had one of the best police forces among smaller
    states in the country. The law and order situation was quite stable and number of crimes was very low, he said.

    He said Pondicherry had made tremendous achievements in healthcare, power and education sectors. Co-operative sector
    was also very strong in the state.

    In government and private medical colleges, free education was being imparted for students selected on merit.
    Power tariff in the state was also very low. Upto consumption of 100 units, only 60 paise was being levied per unit.

    Pondicherry had four percent of Malayalam-speaking population, mostly confined to Mahe, geographically located
    between Kannur and Kozhikode districts in Kerala, having a population of 38,000. PTI
