Clash during New Year celebrations: Malayalee youth killed

Coimbatore: A Malayalee youth was killed after a clash during New Year eve. The deceased is K Satheeshkumar,19, son of Sakthivel and Renuka from Tripunithura, who are goldsmiths here, residing at Maruthamal road P N Puthoor Seeranaykan Palayam. Satheesh Kumar is an employee at a car polishing shop in Ganapathi. Police got information that Satheesh had a quarrel with another group on cutting of a New Year cake on December 31 at PN Puthoor ground. Satheesh, angry after the clash, was returning home by bike. He was followed by a six-member gang and they attacked him and poured cyanide into his mouth. They roamed the city with the dead body till January 1 night. At 9 pm after ensuring that the employees of the Puthoor crematorium left, they buried the body at the crematorium.

On January 1, Satheeshkumar's father Sakthivel filed a complaint with the Vadavalli police saying his son was missing. Police did not register the case. Satheesh's relatives alleged that as the prime accused in the case is the son of a sub inspector attached to the Coimbatore city police, the police were hesitant to register the case.

Furious over not registering the case, his relatives and locals caught the five youth who are suspected to be involved in the crime and handed them over to the police. Though police took them under custody, no FIR was registered.

Relatives and locals stated that the five youth, whom they handed over to police, earlier had confessed to the crime and showed the place where the body was buried.
