Thiruvananthapuram:Five districts in Kerala, sharing borders with Tamil Nadu, will have public holiday on the day of Pongal, the most important Tamil festival falling this year on January 15.
The Government took this decision in deference to the request made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi,
Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan told reporters.
The districts where the holiday would be declared are Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad, Pathanamthita,Idukki and Wayanad, which have pockets of Tamil-speaking people.PTI
