    Four police personnel hurt as DYFI stir turns violent

    Kozhikode: Four police personnel, including two women, were injured as demonstrations by pro-CPI (M) Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) in protest against recent hike in petrol price turned violent in the city and Vatakara in the district today. Police said about 400 slogan-shouting activists attempted to enter the Income Tax Office in the city after breaking police barricades.

    Some of them, who managed to barge in, pelted stones at the office damaging window panes.

    An Assistant Commissioner of Police, three constables, including two women, who were on duty, sustained injuries in the stone throwing, they said.

    The stir was inaugurated by CPI (M) Kozhikode district head T P Ramakrishnan.

    Police said Head Post Office in Vatakara was also attacked by volunteers of the DYFI as part of their agitation against fuel price hike.

    Window panes, computers and telephones of the post office were damaged in stone pelting by agitators, police said.

    The stir was led by DYFI leader Mohammed Riyaz.
