Kannur : Eleven-year-old twin brothers were killed and a six-year-old child seriously injured when a Jeep overturned and ran over them, about 65 km from here,late last night.
Police identified the deceased as Abhijith and Abinand, both class V students.
Their cousin , Vaishak (6), who was seriously injured, was admitted to Kozhikode Private Hospital.
The accident occurred when the Jeep was proceeding to Kanichar from Kelakam. The driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the children.
The victims and their mothers were on way to attend Theypooyam Festival at Kanichar Subramanyaswami Temple at 2030 hrs.
Locals rescued the children from under the Jeep but Abhijith died on the spot while Abinand succumbed in the early hours today at a hospital.
Bineesh, a passenger of the Jeep, was also injured.
The driver of the jeep was absconding, police said.
