Flattery from writers not needed : Oommen Chandy

Thrissur : Kerala Opposition leader Oommen Chandy has said Congress leaders do need unnecessary adulation from writers. He was addressing a gathering of writers and cultural workers organised by the Samskara Sahithi, a cultural organisation, here yesterday in connection with the Kerala Mochana Yatra led by him.

He said the writers should come forward to criticise the mistakes. Writers and cultural workers should react against the worsening situation in the state.

He said problems faced by the cultural and educational sectors could be solved through consultation of the related parties.

The Opposition leader said the Centre has taken steps to grant classical status to the Malayalam language.

Earlier talking to reporters, he said the Makara Jyothi at Sabarimala was a matter of belief and refused to react further.

A public reception was also given to the Kerala Mochana yatra at the Thekkinkad maidan when it reached late in the evening after visiting different areas of the district.

KPCC President Remesh Chennithala and others spoke on the occasion.
