Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee has asked Centre to order a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in the operations of Bhutan lotteries in the state.
In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala and Opposition leader Oommen
Chandy also pointed out Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan's request in this regard.
Addressing a press conference at the KPCC Head-quarters Indira Bhavan here, Chennithala said they were in favour of a
probe into the operation of Bhutan lotteries during the period of both UDF and LDF rules.
Chennithala alleged that Achuthanandan and State Finance Minister T M Thomas Issac were on a 'cold war' over the
lottery issue.
'While Achuthanandan is in favour of a CBI probe into the issue, Issac is against such an ivestigation', Chennithala
alleged.
Chennithala also demanded the resignation of Issac owing responsibility to the corruption or asked Chief Minister to
drop him from the cabinet. Chennithala said CPI-in the state was also afraid of a CBI probe into the issue. Though, there were enough ground to take action against Santiago Martin, the lottery operator, the government was not taking any steps to arrest him.
'People in the state likes to know why no case is registered against Santiago Martin to bring him before the justice', Chennithala added.
Chennithala also charged the LDF government with resorting to 'back door' appointments in proposed public sector
undertakings.
KPCC was of the view that there should be an impartial probe into the suicide of former company secretary of state run
Malabar Cements in Palakkad, he said adding 'as per media reports and information from the local people, there is
mystery in the suicide of former company secretary Saseedharan and his two sons in his house on January 24'.
Chennithala said a comprensive probe also should be ordered into the alleged irregularities and corruption Malabar
Cements.
KPCC, Chennithala said, was of the view that there should be an impartial probe into the suicide of former company
secretary of state run Malabar Cements in Palakkad. 'As per media reports and information from the local people, there is mystery in the suicide of former company secretary Saseedharan and his two sons in his house on January 24'.
