Rape case in Thrissur: Accused is a hardened criminal from Tamilnadu
Thrissur: Govindaswamy, the accused in the molestation of a 23-year-old woman rail passenger is a hardened criminal hailing from Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu, police said. The accused was taken to the Medical College Hospital in Thrissur for medical examination on Friday who was held from Palakkd. Police had got evidence during his medical examinations. Meanwhile the condition of the 23-year-old woman, who suffered severe injuries after being raped after she was pushed out of a running train, has deteriorated further on Friday. According to a press release from the police, Govindaswamy boarded the ladies compartment of the ErnakulamShoranur Passenger train at Vallathol Nagar railway station on Tuesday night. 'The accused attacked the woman and tried to snatch her handbag. She was alone in the compartment. He allegedly pushed her out of the train. Her head hit the rail track and she fell unconscious. The accused too jumped out of the train and allegedly raped her near the track. He stole her mobile phone and boarded a Thrissur-bound bus. From there, he reached Palakkad. He was taken into custody by the police from Palakkad town on February 2,' the release said. He was held after tracing the mobile of the girl.
Wadakanchery First Class Judicial Magistrate Court on Friday remanded Govindaswamy to 15 days in police custody.
The accused has been charged with IPC Sections 376 (rape) and 397 (robbery).
