UDF to formulate election strategy after culmination of yatra

Kozhikode : The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala would formulate its strategy for the ensuing assebly poll in the state after the culmination of 'Kerala moc-hana Yatra,'' at Thiruvanthapuram on February 9, Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy said today.

Talking to newsperson here, Mr Chandy, heading the state-wide campaign, claimed the 'jatha' had received tremendous reponse from the people, hinting a landslide victory in the assembly election as well. ''The jatha has received wholehearted support from all the assembly constituencies it traversed, indicating a big victory for the UDF as happened in the last Lok Sabha and local body poll that followed,'' he claimed.

He said the responsibility of the UDF had increased in the wake of enhanced trust of the people as witnessed during his traverse through every nook and corner of the state.

He said the differences surfaced in the Indian Union Muslim League, a partner in the UDF, in the wake of the controversy relating to the sensational icecream parlour sex scam, was ironed out by that party, further strengthening the Opposition conglomeration.

Accusing CPI (M) State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan ''of attempting to create division in the UDF,'' he said his party itself had landed in trouble with a state committee member, accused of helping Kunhalikutty in the sex scam, questioning top leadership of that party on different issues.

He said as many as 140 'charge sheets'' against the ''mis-rule'' of the CPI (M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) government received from all the assembly constituencies during the campaign will be submitted to the Governor on the culmination of the 'jatha' on February 9.

Stating the UDF proposed to hold a massive public meeting in Thiruvanthapuram to mark the culmination of the Yatra, he said all the elected representatives, including MPs, MLAs and members of the local bodies, are expected to participate in the mega event.

Union Civil Aviation and Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi would inaugurate the public meet, he added.
