Kochi: The Cochin Port Trust said that due to the adamant stand taken by the unions, spearheading the ongoing strike at the port, no result could come out of the conciliation talks held between the union leaders and the port trust management.
'The port trust management had held a series of discussions with senior trade union leaders on February six, when they took a very positive and constructive stand.
''However, when talks resumed this morning, on February seven, with the unions who are spearheading the strike, no progress could be achieved,'' a Port Trust release said here today.
The Port Trust also said though the management had made all sincere efforts to resolve the problems of those who would be losing their employment as a direct result of implementation of the ICTT, the unfortunate insistence on the part of the concerned unions demanding the continued operation of RGCT and the resumption of the 'turn system' for trucks, the talks could not progress.
For the last few days, a section of trade unions representing certain categories of workers in the Willingdon Island had been resorting to agitations raising various demands.
As already clarified, none of the employees or trade unions representing the port employees, were involved in this strike, it added.
