    Maoists behind CPI(M) supporter's murder?

The spree of killings in the Maoist-affected Jangal Mahal region of West Bengal's south-western districts continued unabated with the discovery of the body of another supporter of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) by suspected Maoists in Paschim Medinipur district on Sunday.

Rameshwar Bag (60), a resident of Panchruki village in the Jhargram area, was killed by armed persons on Saturday night. His body was found by villagers on the outskirts of the village, Mukesh Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police of Jhargram, told The Hindu over telephone.

A poster claiming that the victim was a police informer was found near the body, he added.

Police sources said that they had received reports that a Maoist squad had attacked the entire village and beaten up several villagers before dragging Rameshwar Bag away. However, none of the villagers have filed an official complaint.

The region has been witness to uninterrupted violence since the launch of joint security operations to flush out Maoists and activists of the Maoist-backed Police Santrash Birodhi Janasadharaner Committee were launched in June 2009.
