Over 80 Shiv Sena activists were on Saturday detained after they allegedly violated prohibitory orders and clashed with police while trying to head towards the civil secretariat, to stage a protest against price rise.
The activists, led by the Sena's State unit president Ashok Gupta, started a march from the City Chowk. They were shouting anti-government slogans, officials said.
As they reached Shalimar, where orders prohibiting the assembly of four or more persons had been imposed, police stopped them. Batons were used to disperse them.
