BJP: will the sentence actually be executed?

Reacting to the decision of the Mumbai High Court upholding the death sentence to Ajmal Kasab, the Bharatiya Janata Party wondered if the execution of Kasab would actually be carried out or stalled just like that of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

“Afzal Guru is still in the queue to be hanged even after the Supreme Court verdict,” the party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said. Reiterating the party's demand for hanging Guru, Mr. Javadekar demanded Kasab's sentence be executed soon.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad secretary-general Pravin Togadia said that the victims of terror attacks would get justice only if all the “jehadis” were hanged to death.

In a statement, he accused the government of being soft towards “jehadis” while treating Hindus as terrorists. He claimed that keeping alive “jehadis” due to the long judicial process or pending mercy petitions posed danger to internal security.
