Hitting back at the Opposition for accusing him of “creating a mess,” Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday said they need to educate themselves on the global opinion about India before pointing fingers at him.
“Whenever I go abroad, people marvel that there exists a country like India...We are now world's second fastest growing economy... People talk in terms of an Indian model of growth wherever I go. It is only in our Parliament that the Leader of Opposition and some other friends regard us as a purposeless, non result-oriented government,” he said in his reply to the debate on Motion of Thanks on President's Address to the Parliament.
Dr. Singh was referring to the statement of the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley, that the Prime Minister was a “distinguished economist, but made a mess of this country.”
The Prime Minister said Mr. Jaitley should “educate” himself on the opinion the international community held about India instead of criticising him and his government.
