Thiruvananthapuram : Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa today appealed to the Kerala Government to provide sufficient land for the Railway Coach Factory project in Palakkad district. Addressing a press conference here, he claimed the State Government had retracted its earlier stand offering free land for the coach factory.
''The reason for the government's change of stand was not clear,'' he added.
Though no funds were alloted in the Railway Budget, presented in Parliament on Friday, Union Railway Minister Mamta Banerjee, however, promised the coach factory would be set up, he said.
New line surveys would be taken up for Thakazhy-Thiruvalla, Kannur-Mattanur, Thiruvalla-Ranny-Pampa, Kozhikode-Beypre, Nanjangude-Nilambur Road, Thalassery-Mysore routes in this year, he said.
Doubling works would be completed in Mavelikkara-Chengannur, Kayamkulm-Haripad routes this year, he said.
Stating Railways was aiming to achieve connectivity with all the districts in the country, he said Trivandrum Station would be improved by giving facelift with the cooperation of Tourism Ministry on cost sharing basis.
Railways would set up wagon units at Alappuzha under JV/PPP mode and new coaching terminal at Kottayam and Nemom, he said.
