Thiruvananthapuram: A cobra that was found with serious injuries at a construction site has been saved by a team of veteterinary doctors through a surgery that lasted for two-and-a-half hours. After undergoing the opearation at a government vet clinic here yesterday, the reptile is making progress but it needs a
few more days careful nursing, the doctors said.
The 5.5 feet-long cobra was caught by snake enthusiast and conservationist Vava Suresh from the outskirts of the city a
few days back. The intestine of the snake had partly come out, as it was hurt by the earth mover engaged at the work site.
Though the reptile was immediately taken to the vet clinic, the doctors had to wait for some time as they required the
permission from the Wildlife Department for performing the surgery on snakes.
The doctors said it was a delicate procedure that they had to perform as the snake did not fully tranquilized even after
administering anaesthesia.
The snake had been given back to Suresh, who will put it back in the forest after it is fully recovered.PTI
