YC activist commits suicide after thrashing by CPM activists

Kelakam: A tribal youth who was beaten up by CPM activists on Tuesday evening was found dead in his home on Wednesday morning. Kottiyoor Amabayathod Balan, 31, was found hanging and he was the Youth Congress booth president of the Amabyathod sixth ward.Balan who quit CPM to join Congress was beaten up by CPM earlier too. But CPM leader said that Balan, who was drunk, was beaten up by neighbours and relatives.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening. The issue began when Balan, who was drunk, tore the posters of CPM candidate K K Shailaja in Peravoor. Balan and CPM activists had a clash over this and pelted stones at each other. Balan who returned to his home came back to the scene with a knife. Seeing this more CPM activists assembled. Relatievs said they tied Balan with his own clothes and beat him up. Later the police team, led by Kelakam ASI K Rajan, freed him.

His brother Rajan said that he saw Balan asleep at 11 pm. Balan's mother who reached home on Wednesday morning found him hanging. His wife was not at home. His body had injury marks. Balan is the son of Kelu and Ammini. Wife Sobha is five-month pregnant. His children are Aparna and Anupama. Santhosh is his brother.
