Kozhikode: Chemical substances were found in the toddy distributed by the taluk toddy tapping employees co-operative society at five place and the Excise Department held 7 persons, including the secretary of the co-operative society. The adulterated toddy was distributed by the societies controlled by CITU in Nanmada, Iruvaloor, Narikkuni, Cheekkilodu and Puthiyedahu Thzaam. But he excise commissioner has so far not taken action on the recommendation that the licenses of the 101 shops under the society be cancelled. The matter came to light after examining the toddy at the regional chemical examination laboratory. Though the report came on February 18, action is being taken only now. The licenses of those against whom the probe was progressing was also renewed and that became a row. But officials say that as the modal code of conduct is in existence, new licenses could not be issued.
