Poll campaign reaches crescendo in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram : With just four days to go for Kerala Assembly elections on April 13, electioneering has reached its crescendo.National and local leaders of the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF), the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the BJP have already crisscrossed all 140 constituencies in the state.

As in the case of previous elections, the main fight is between the LDF and the UDF. However, the strong presence of the BJP, still struggling to make an entry in the state Assembly, has resulted in a triangular contest in a few constituencies.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congresss President Sonia Gandhi, her son and AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and Defence Minister A K Antony, among others, are leading the campaign for the UDF, which is seeking to come back to power after a gap of five years.

For the LDF, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan emerged as the undisputed star campaigner despite the presence of national leaders of the CPI(M).

On the other hand, the BJP, in a desperate attempt to create a space for itself in the highly bipolar politics, deputed its top leaders like L K Advani and Sushma Swaraj for the campaign in key constituencies.
