Call it the Kendriya Vidyalaya Marriage Bureau. Going the extra mile in its human resource management, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), the organisation that administers over 1,000 government-run schools in India and abroad, has turned matchmaker for its employees.
What started as a small link on its web site to some 10 resumes of its unmarried staffers is now a full-fledged web page boasting a hundred-plus “matrimonials”, all posted by KV staffers.
How and why a chain of schools began hosting matrimonials on its web site has to do with the very nature of KVs. Set up as model schools across India, many KVs are located in remote areas, where its young staffers have little opportunity to find potential partners. So KVS thought it fit to “facilitate” their search.
“The issue came up in one of our monthly meetings last year. While no formal demand was made by the teachers’ association, it had been brought to our notice several times that many of our unmarried staffers posted in far-flung KVs found it difficult to find a partner,” Avinash Dik****, Commissioner, KVS
