In a move that shocked global markets, Bart Becht, the chief executive officer of the $12.21 billion consumer goods giant Reckitt Benckiser Group plc (RB) for 16 years announced his exit today, and the board promptly named India-born Rakesh Kapoor as the CEO designate.
Kapoor, aged 52, is an RB veteran having joined the company in India in 1987 and spent 25 years so far. He is responsible for two key drivers that helped the company post robust growth, innovation and “powerbrands” – the 19 products generating much of its revenues. He is currently executive vice-president (global category development) and a member of RB’s executive committee.
Reckitt Benckiser’s brands include Dettol, Strepsils, Harpic, Veet, Air Wick, Calgon, Cillit Bang, Durex and Vanish. It has operations in over 60 nations and its products are sold in over 180 countries.
