Public Relations Minister Laxmikant Sharma has said that rules are being formulated to provide honorarium to senior journalists and a decision to this effect will be taken shortly. Sharma was addressing a function here at Shaheed Bhawan, which was organised to honour journalists. It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had recently made announcement at a function at Bhopal to give ‘shradhhanidhi’ (honorarium) to journalists. Secretary and Commissioner Public Relations Rakesh Shrivastava was also present on the occasion.
The Public Relations Minister said that positive cooperation of the Press was vital for the government and society. It is an important responsibility of the media to highlight and criticise shortcomings, which benefits both the society and the government. Monitoring of news flashed by print and electronic media is undertaken and various departments are informed about their shortcomings highlighted by the media in an effort to improve the situation.
At the function, journalists of various newspapers and news channels were honoured. They included Prakash Tiwari, Arun Tiwari, Shailendra Arjaria, Sanjay Raizada, SuRitu Mishra, Nitin Tripathi, Rajesh Pathak, Rizwan Shanu, Vinod Upadhyaya, Manmohan Kurapa, Aditya Narayan Upadhyaya, Prabal Saxena, Vindo Suryavanshi, Apoorv Khare, SuHemlata Raj and Nirmal Choudhary.
Several social workers including Radheyshyam Agrawal, K.S. Chandranai, Ramchandra Moolchandani, Kishore Tejwani, Ramchandra Sabnai and Pt. Jaikumar Sharma were also honoured on the occasion.
Dilip Lalwani from Mumbai expressed his views on the possibilities and present scenario of journalism. The function was organised by Working Journalists Association for Youth.
