BJP claims bungling in DDA flats’ draw

A day after the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) declared the draw of lots for 16,000 flats, the BJP alleged “bungling” in the exercise and cited instances to support the claim.
The DDA’s last housing scheme in 2008 was also marred in allegation of scams.
Delhi BJP chief Vijendra Gupta quoting his sources claimed that “there has been bungling in the draw of lots”. Mr Gupta demanded a CBI enquiry into the “bungling” in the draw of lots of the DDA.
“The applicant of application number 821900 was Sunil Kumar Jain. Mr Jain was declared successful in the draw of lots. His four sons Sameer Jain, Bhanu Jain, Gaurav Jain and Vivek Jain having application numbers 337382, 715419, 1007146, 1294180 respectively have also been declared successful in the draw,” Mr Gupta claimed in his statement citing instance of “bungling” in the draw of lots.
Giving another instance suggesting “bungling”, Mr Gupta stated that applicants Poonam Gautam, Rahul Gautam, Preeti Gautam, who are children of a person named Surendra Kumar, have been allotted flats in the draw of lots.
“The numbers of their applications are 1070441, 1070442, 1070443 respectively. Can three applicants from the same family be allotted houses in serial numbers?” Mr Gupta said.
The Delhi BJP chief also charged that the DDA has completely failed in solving the housing problems of the low and middle income groups in the city.
“The DDA has become a profit making government organisation. The DDA is recovering `6 lakhs for Janta flats. Can poor people actually pay such a high price for these flats,” asked Mr Vijendra Gupta, while seeking the definition of the poor from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Can a person of middle income group purchase flat of `30 lakhs, while the DDA has fixed the price of high income group houses at `85 lakhs, asked Mr Gupta.
“The price of Vasant Kunj flats is up to `1.12 crores. Can a common man purchase so costly flats? A total of 7,55,075 people had applied for 16,118 flats. After the draw of lots 7,38,967 applicants were rejected. The Prime Minister and the urban development minister should tell how much these people will have to wait for getting houses,” stated Mr Gupta.
