The State Bureau of Investigation for Economic Offences (SBIEO) police station on Tuesday has registered a case against the officials of State Seeds Certification Agency for selling low quality seeds on high prices.
The bureau unit in Indore had received a complaint against the proprietor of Vardan Seeds and Agritech Maxi Road Ujjain Lokendra Singh Rajput who had shown 24890.10 quintal graded seeds in the records but during inspection, only 8570-quintal seeds were recovered. Similarly, the Ujjayini Seed Producing Cooperative Society was found to be selling out seeds without having the license for the same.
Prima Facie, it was proved that the accused organisations purchased normal soyabin seeds from the market and got the grading done for these seeds by the certification inspector and sold the same to farmers on higher rates through fraudulently.
The bureau in the inquiry found out that the proprietors of the accused organisations, seed certification inspectors and other Government officials connived together to illegally certify the sub standard seeds. The inquiry also revealed that the accused Government officials contrary to their official responsibilities and duped the farmers.
The bureau on Tuesday registered a case against Proprietor of Vardan Seeds and Agritech Maxi Road Ujjain Lokendra Singh Rajput, Pradip Jhanjhri Proprietor of Ujjayini Seeds Producing Cooperative Society Chimanganj Mandi Ujjain and Seeds Certification Inspector DR Bhalave and few officials from Agriculture Department and Seed Certification Agency under sections 420, 120B of IPC and sections 13 (1) and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
