A delegation of Russian parliamentarians and members of State Duma Committee on Science and Science Intensive Technologies, headed by Valery A Chereshnev, held fruitful discussions with Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science & Technology, Environment and Forests, headed by Rajya Sabha MP T Subbarami Reddy, on Tuesday.
The two delegations held discussions on various issues including bilateral cooperation in the fields of atomic energy and space. Reddy, in his opening remarks, underlined the various facets of scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries, which form the backbone of special and privileged strategic partnership between the two countries, a Rajya Sabha statement said here.
The Russian Delegation, while acknowledging great strides made by Indian scientists in the fields of bio-technology and IT, expressed the desire for greater cooperation between the two countries in these fields. The Russians also noted that India domestically meets 80% of its pharmaceuticals needs.
