Kottayam : Christians in the state today celebrated Maundy Thursday with religious fervor and gaiety as part of the holy week celebrations.Hundreds of pilgrims staged 'Neendal Nercha' (crawling on knees) at St Mary's Forane Church, Kudamaloor, the home Parish of St Alphonsa. The programme commenced at 0600 hrs today and would continue till 2200 hrs on Good Friday.
Holy Communion and washing of feet were held under the leadership of Bishops and Priests at different churches as part of the Maundy Thursday celebrations in commemoration of the celebration of the Passover by Jesus Christ with his disciples.
Paschal cakes were prepared at Christian families and distributed among family members as part of the celebration.
