New record created in family planning: Govt

Madhya Pradesh Government claimed that it has created a new record of family planning in the State. The decision to observe 2010 as family planning year has yielded positive results with 6.5 lakh people adopting family planning programme till March 2011.

Interestingly, the people showed their interest in the programme. The State achieved this target after 57 years with the joint efforts of Government and people. 27 districts of four divisions fared well with crossing more than 100 percent target.

Chief Minister Chouhan had announced 2010 as family planning year. After the announcement, the Health Department had targeted to join seven lakh people as per population ratio under family planning programme. However, it is being seen as great achievement as compared to previous years. The health department has to its credit the launching of the campaign by framing integrated strategy.

Under the strategy, incentive scheme was launched to inspire the people to undergo family planning programme on the other hand strict provisions were also made against the public servants for abdicating their responsibility causing medical negligence. The family planning programme yielded its positive response and made it a public campaign partly due to constant monitoring and partly because of regular field visits by the officials.

Under the family welfare programme, four divisions recorded more than 100 percent achievement. These divisions are: Shahdol (109.5), Jabalpur (104.9), Ujjain (101.9) and Indore (101.1). Commissioner and joint directors of health department will be awarded as per promotional policy.
