The Muslim Personal Law Board, a representative forum of the Muslim community in India to deal with its religious matters, will meet for two days in Hyderabad starting from Saturday to discuss several legal issues and court cases that allegedly pose a challenge to the Shariat laws.
However, the most important item on the agenda will pertain to the Babri Masjid case, which the Board has decided to fight in the Supreme Court.
Moulana Abdul Raheem Qureshi, assistant secretary of the Board, told The Pioneer ahead of the meeting that in all nine petitions will be filed in the Supreme Court challenging last year's verdict of the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court. "Four petitions have already been filed and another five petitions will be filed. The process of admission of these petitions was expected to be completed by the month of July and then the hearing will start," he said.
The executive of the AIMPLB, which will meet at Darul-Uloom in Hyderabad with about 100 members from all over the country in attendance, will discuss and finalise the strategy on how to go about the case. "We will hire the services of the best lawyers in the country," said Qureshi pointing out that the Board had already hired legal luminaries like Rajiv Dhawan, Anup Chowdhary and PP Rao.
