6-member Indian delegation in Pak for secy-level talks on trade

A high level six-member delegation, headed by Commerce Secretary, Government of India, Rahul Khullar on Tuesday crossed over to Pakistan for two-day long talks with Pakistan officials on trade and commerce. The talks will take place at Islamabad on April 28-29. The meeting is of significance in that the Home Secretaries of the two neighbouring counties recently met at Delhi and the interaction is expected to pave the way for new understanding to enhance trade ties.

Khullar who reviewed the ongoing work at Attari border Integrated Check Post (ICP) said before going to Pakistan that the talks were likely to be held in a cordial atmosphere with an “open mind”. He said all the important issues confronting the two nations on trade would be discussed with Pak counterparts.

When asked about the Most Favored Nation (MFN) status that Pakistan is yet to give India, so long after India gave the status to Pakistan, Khullar said the issue will be discussed in the meeting. “See talks are to be held without any specific agenda, but these prominent issues including MFN status and more items to be traded through SAFTA are to come up for discussions”, he said.
