    Number of kidney patients on rise in Wayanad

    Kalpetta: Following cancer, patients with diseases affecting kidney are on rise in Wayanad. According to Dialysis Personnel Society of India, an organization of dialysis's technicians, there are 600 kidney patients in Wayanad. The account does not include the patients from Wayanad under going dialysis in hospitals in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Many are dying each year but not much studies were conducted so far.When the goernment and non goervemntal organizations are giving attention to cancer patients, whereas the kidney patients are often go unnoticed. The poor patients are being helped by the committees formed by the natives.
    The cost of treatment for them are also high as they have to spent from Rs 12,000 to 15,000 in each month for medicine and dialysis. When the cost for dialysis in Kozhikode medical college is Rs 600 , it is Rs 1500 in private hospitals.In Wayanad the facility is available only in Fathima Hospital , Kalpetta.
