Employees of state owned procurement agencies have agreed to participate in wheat lifting exercise after the state authorities assurance that they would not be held responsible for purchase of poor quality crop.
The assurance was given by Food and Supplies Department Director Alak Nanda Dayal. The employees of five state procurement agencies had refused to participate in the purchasing of grains as they feared that FCI and the procurement agencies would hold them responsible for not buying crop as per specified norms.
According to official information, the state government has given an undertaking to FCI that the state would be responsible if Centre raised an objection to procurement of discoloured crop.
State government has also stated that the crop in Moga got discoloured due to recent rains and hailstorm. Punjab Mandi Board Chairman Ajmer Singh Lakhowal held meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday and apprised him of the situation.
