CBI preliminary enquiry in Radia, scribe ties

The CBI has registered a Preliminary Enquiry into the alleged bribe offer made by a journalist purported to be working on behalf of corporate lobbyist Nira Radia.

The move comes after the Enforcement Directorate registered a compliant to the CBI claiming that the journalist in question had approached an ED official probing the 2G spectrum scam, with a bribe offer of Rs 2 crore.

CBI sources said the journalist will be called for questioning soon after the statement of Enforcement Directorate was recorded.

A CBI official confirmed receipt of the ED compliant and said the probe would be completed within three months and if some merit is there in the allegations, a Regular Case (FIR) would be registered.

The allegation is that the journalist had sought an appointment with Assistant Director of ED Rajeshwar Singh on the pretext of “furnishing some information” in its probe in the 2G scam. The ED is probing alleged violation of Prevention of Money Laundering Act in the spectrum scam and had questioned Radia earlier.
