Thiruvananthapuram: The state government had directed to appoint women helpers in labour rooms to mentally prepare the pregnant women. As per the guidelines issued by the government, if needed women helpers can be appointed in first level of delivery to regulate the number of caesareans. The order issued on Monday has been made applicable to government as well as private hospital. The guidelines give strict instructions as to conduct the caesarean only when there is threat life of mother and kid.
The government has given a total 16 directions including to set up gynecology units in woman and children hospital, general /district and taluk hospitals and to ensure the service of at least two gynecologists. In the hospitals with gynecology and experts in women disease must function as one unit and a collective opinion must be formed after discussion on pregnant women who in complicated conditions. In hospitals with more then one gynecologist before opting for caesarean a second opinion must be sought. But if the condition is unavoidable and critical the doctor can take the decision.All the details of pregnant women must be stored in hospitals and doctor must record all monthly progress. All the information must be subject to auditing in each month. And the information regarding the same must be hand over to the first working day of each month. The high-risk cases, which need caesarean, must be identified earlier and must be given special consideration. For normal delivery the pregnant women must be given support and they should be given awareness son delivery pain.
