Thiruvananthapuram: The move on the part of the Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma) to hike the milk price was on Monday stayed by the Director of Dairy Development.Milma informed that they would approach the Supreme Court challenging the stay. Milma had decided to increase milk price by Rs 5 per litre.Milma Chairman PT Gopala Kurup stated that the price would come into effect after the election results. He pointed out that the production cost has gone beyond control and hence left with no option but to go for a hike in the milk price.

Earlier Food and Civil Supplies minister C Divakaran said that the government would not allow to hike the milk price at any cost. He said, by announcing a hike, Milma is challenging the people and also the Milma is violating the co-operative rules. Milma must remember that all such systems are under the control of the government. The government is considering the report on restructuring Milma, he added. He said that even if Milma raises the price, the farmers here won't get the benefit as it would only help the farmers in other state .
