Job entrance fraud: MANIT ex-student is ringleader

    Bhopal

The immensely forgettable memories of impersonators came back to haunt the MP Professional Examination Board once again as two imposters were nabbed by police in Jabalpur during PEPT 2011 on Sunday. Their arrest brought to fore an inter-State racket whose mastermind is said to be an ex-MANIT student.

The Jabalpur police following a tip off on Saturday had arrested two veterinary college students, who are the members of an inter-State gang of impersonators. After quizzing them, the police raided Model School on Sunday. On suspicion, the police checked the admit cards of the two students and concluded that these candidates were taking the test in place of other candidates by tampering with the photos on the admit cards.

Police immediately arrested these impersonators. The two arrested students during interrogation revealed their names as Vinay Patel and Kavish Mittal, both students of second year at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal. They informed police that they used to take the test in place of others in return of sums varing from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000.

The Chief Superintendent of Police, Rajesh Dandotia, told media that now the impersonation has taken the shape of an organised crime racket. “Now these rackets work in the form of different groups,” said Dandotia. He revealed that the first group selects the prospective candidates, the second one selects the impersonators, the third one prepares fake documents and the fourth one works as facilitator for the impersonators.

The CSP said that one Kundan, an ex-MANIT student is the kingpin of the racket, which functions in different states like MP, UP, CG, Bihar and Delhi. The senior cop said it is a huge racket, which is involved in rigging AIEEE, PMT, AIPMT and other exams in different states. He claimed that these impersonators charged between `30,000 to `50,000 for taking exams.

The CSP told that the police have arrested four candidates in connection with the impersonation racket and two are still absconding. He informed that MANIT administration would be contacted for conducting further inquiry on Monday.

MPPEB spokesperson Sunil Shrivastava confirmed that two impersonators have been nabbed by police in Jabalpur. He thanked the media and other sections of the society for brining awareness about this menace. Shrivastava claimed that no untoward incident was reported from anywhere else in Pre-Engineering and Pharmacy Test, which was conducted in MP and nine other States.

More than 1 lakh students took the test at 259 centres including 31 centres in the State capital. Significantly, scores of impersonators have been arrested at different cities in MPPEB exams, mainly the PMT, in the last few years, which has prompted the Board to alter security arrangements in the last couple of years.
