Thiruvananthapuram :Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today clarified that he will follow the policy of the previous LDF Government on Mullaperiyar Dam issue with Tamil Nadu. But any decision by the State Government on constructing a new dam at Mullaperiyar would be taken after an amicable understanding by both the States, Mr Chandy said while speaking at a Meet-the-Press Programme, organised by the Press Club, here.
'Millions of people in five nearby districts of the dam area are living in fear and we cant ignore this fact. A decision on constructing a new dam will be taken only after getting a consent from Tamil Nadu, keeping good relation between the two States,' he said.
'Kerala will certainly continue to give water to Tamil Nadu as is being done, even when the new dam comes up,' he added.
