Kochi : The train service between Alappuzh and Ernakulam disrupted for more than four hours, as a coconut tree fell on the overhead lines between Kumbalam and Thuravoor stations today.According to Railway sources, the work is progressing and they had already cleared the track, removing the coconut tree. However, the overhead line had some problems and the railway staff was in the process of restoring electricty through lines, the sources added.
As the work was progressing, train no 2512 Thiruvnanthapuram Ghorakpur express and Chennai Alappuzha trains were retained at Thuravoor and Kumbalam respectively and these trains were running more than three hours behind schedule.
It was expecting that the traffic would be restored in two hours, the sources added.
Since the track was laid on the coastal area and there were lot of coconut palms in the area, and if a tree falls tree fall on a running train, there would be major tragedy.
