Thiruvananthapuram: While discussions to meet the revenue deficit of KSEB's Rs 887.81 crore is in progress, steps are afoot to raise the electricity charge in the form of surcharge. A final decision would be taken by June end. As per accounts submitted to the Electricity Regulatory Commission by the KSEB, there is need to raise 25 paise for a unit from July for the next six months. It is stated that the revenue deficit has been brought to the forefront inorder to cover up protests for a surcharge raise.
For KSEB to make a permanent raise of 57 paise per unit would take month-long proceedings. It is also reported that the board is making such a move as a temporary hike may invite less protests.
